Live COVID-19 updates: Colombia logs 3,411 new COVID-19 cases

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BOGOTA -- Colombia registered 3,411 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, taking its nationwide tally to 2,276,656, said the Ministry of Health and Social Protection on Sunday.

The country reported 91 more deaths, raising the national death toll to 60,503, said the ministry.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported five cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation on Monday, with one border-related case reported Sunday to be officially added to Monday's tally.

There are no new cases in the community, according to the Ministry of Health.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa reached 3,958,121 as of Sunday evening, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

African countries were facing several challenges, as they were in bad need of vaccines, Africa CDC Director John Nkengasong said on Sunday.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland reported no new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Sunday, the National Health Commission said Monday.

A total of 19 new imported COVID-19 cases were reported on Sunday, said the commission in its daily report.

No new suspected cases or new deaths related to the disease were reported, it added

ADDIS ABABA -- Ethiopia reported 1,109 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 166,138, the Ministry of Health said on Sunday.

Nine new deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the country during the same period, bringing the death toll to 2,429, the ministry said.

With 715 more recoveries registered, the total recoveries rose to 138,500, it added. Enditem
