Live COVID-19 updates: Russia adds 10,253 new cases

BEIJING, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 10,253 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 4,333,029, the country's COVID-19 response center said on Monday.

Meanwhile, 89,473 related deaths and 3,922,246 recoveries from the disease were reported, the center said.

TASHKENT -- The Uzbek Minister of Innovative Development Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov said that a China-developed recombinant protein vaccine against COVID-19 is safe and effective.

In a recent interview with Xinhua, Abdurakhmonov noted that an ongoing phase-3 clinical trial of the vaccine in his country showed positive results, with no serious adverse event observed so far.

COPENHAGEN -- Bavarian Nordic is ready to start human testing of its COVID-19 vaccine candidate, following strong pre-clinical results, the Danish pharmaceutical company said in an announcement on Monday.

"We are pleased to report strong pre-clinical results for ABNCoV2, which support further development," Bavarian Nordic CEO Paul Chaplin said.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 6,894 within one day to 1,386,556, with the death toll adding by 281 to 37,547, the Health Ministry said on Monday.

According to the ministry, 8,725 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,203,381.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported on Monday 3,356 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 597,763.

The death toll climbed to 12,521 after five more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. It added 61 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 545,912.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 11,229,398 on Monday as 18,711 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the health ministry.

According to the official data, the death toll mounted to 157,853 as 97 COVID-19 patients died since Sunday morning. Enditem
