Live COVID-19 updates: Africa's confirmed COVID-19 cases near 3.98 mln

BEIJING, March 10 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

ADDIS ABABA -- A total of 3,976,492 COVID-19 cases have been reported on the African continent as of Tuesday evening, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

Meanwhile, the death toll related to the pandemic in Africa rose to 106,114, Africa CDC said, adding that a total of 3,554,722 COVID-19 patients have recovered.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon registered on Tuesday 3,939 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections to 401,810, the Health Ministry reported.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths from the virus went up by 45 to 5,134 in the country.

HAVANA -- Cuba's Public Health Ministry on Tuesday reported 1,041 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, to a total of 57,607 confirmed cases, along with two more deaths, bringing the death toll to 352.

"The 1,041 cases reported today constitute the second highest figure in the country since Feb. 2, when 1,065 cases were registered," the ministry's national director of hygiene and epidemiology Francisco Duran said in his daily report.

ALGIERS -- Algeria on Tuesday reported 161 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the North African country to 123,543.

The death toll from the virus rose to 3,022 after four new fatalities were added, said the Algerian Ministry of Health in a statement.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 470 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Tuesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 93,733.

The daily caseload was up from 446 in the previous day, marking the highest in 19 days since Feb. 19. Enditem
