Live COVID-19 updates: COVID-19 positivity rate in Chile hits highest level since July

BEIJING, March 11 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

SANTIAGO -- The positivity rate of COVID-19 PCR tests in Chile is at 11.01 percent, the highest figure since July 26, during the peak of the pandemic in the country, according to the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

In addition, Chile registered 3,958 new COVID-19 infections and 24 deaths in the last 24 hours, for a total of 867,949 cases and 21,206 deaths.

JAKARTA -- Those COVID-19 patients with kidney disease in Indonesia have a 13.7 times higher mortality risk than those without any comorbidity, an official said on Wednesday.

This conclusion is based on a study of SARS CoV-2 infection in Indonesia during the first six months of the outbreak.

BEIJING -- Eleven new imported COVID-19 cases were reported Wednesday on the Chinese mainland, bringing the total number of imported cases to 5,115.

Of the new imported cases, five were reported in Shanghai, three in Sichuan, two in Guangdong and one in Fujian, the National Health Commission said in its daily report Thursday.

LISBON -- Portugal recorded 22 deaths related to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, the lowest number since Oct. 25, 2020, taking the national death toll to 16,617.

Meanwhile, the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) registered another 642 cases in one day, pushing the total infections to 811,948.

ANKARA -- Nearly 42,000 infections with new COVID-19 variants have been confirmed in Turkey, the country's Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Wednesday.
