Dengue cases continue to increase in Laos

VIENTIANE, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The cases of dengue fever recorded in Laos have risen to 144 in the time since January, according to a report by the Lao Ministry of Health on Friday.

According to the report from Center of Information and Education for Health under the Lao Ministry of Health, currently the world's most rapidly spreading mosquito-borne viral disease known has caused no death in the cited period in the Southeast Asian country.

Lao health authorities are encouraging people to clear potential mosquito breeding sites around their homes and workplaces to help control the spread of dengue fever.

According to the World Health Organization, dengue is one of the fastest emerging infections, with Thailand, Vietnam, The Philippines and Singapore also seeing high incidence. The number of cases in the western Pacific region has more than doubled over the past 10 years. Enditem
