Libyan security hands over 47 illegal migrants to reception center

TRIPOLI, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Libyan security authorities on Sunday handed over to a reception center 47 illegal African migrants detained in the country's southeastern district of Kufra.
These migrants had been held in a secret prison at a farm, said the Kufra Security Directorate, adding that all the migrants, including 46 Sudanese and one Ethiopian, were handed over to a reception center later.
Libya is a preferred point of departure for many illegal migrants, mostly Africans, wanting to cross the Mediterranean Sea towards Europe, since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.
Thousands of illegal migrants have been rescued and returned to Libya so far this year, and detained inside overcrowded reception centers, despite repeated international calls to close those centers. Enditem
