LUSAKA, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's revenue agency on Friday announced that it has impounded 74 vehicles that were dubiously imported into the country.
The vehicles were impounded during operations conducted in the early hours of Friday in three big cities including Lusaka, the country's capital.
Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda said the agency was currently conducting a comprehensive audit of the country's customs system which involves matching the number and details of vehicles imported and registered vehicles.
The official, who was speaking when he inspected some of the impounded vehicles in Lusaka, said all people with dubiously imported vehicles should have them cleared before May 15, 2021.
He warned that any illegally imported vehicles that will not be cleared will be impounded, seized, and forfeited to the government without compensation.
The agency, he said, will work with other security wings to ensure that the country's roads were free from illegal vehicles. Enditem
