BEIJING, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

LONDON -- Britain on Tuesday marked one year since British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the first coronavirus lockdown in the country last year.

On March 23, 2020, Johnson unveiled measures to stop the spread of COVID-19. A total of 126,172 people have died so far from COVID-19, according to the latest official figures.

BANGKOK -- Thailand on Tuesday approved financial measures worth a total of 350 billion baht (about 11.3 billion U.S. dollars) to support pandemic-affected businesses.

The cabinet approved a plan to provide 250 billion baht of soft loans for small and medium-sized enterprises, according to Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith.

WARSAW -- The days and weeks ahead will be difficult due to the third coronavirus wave, the spokesman for Poland's Health Ministry warned here on Tuesday.

Wojciech Andrusiewicz told journalists that the restrictions introduced by the ministry on Saturday are not expected to bring about results in just three or four days.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 5,297 within one day to 1,471,225, with the death toll adding by 154 to 39,865, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, 6,954 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,304,921.

BANGKOK -- Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Tuesday received his second shot of COVID-19 vaccine developed by China's Sinovac, and reaffirmed the safety of the vaccine.

"I always feel strong and energetic. We take the shots because we want to save ourselves and save others as well," Anutin said when being asked how he felt after the injection. Enditem
