BEIJING, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

KATHMANDU -- The Nepali government will prohibit the celebration of the Holi festival in public places the second year in row amid the resurging of COVID-19 cases, Nepali government officials said.

The festival, also known as the festival of color, will be celebrated in the country's northern hilly regions on March 28 and in southern plains on March 29.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland reported no new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the National Health Commission said on Thursday.

Eleven new imported COVID-19 cases were reported on Wednesday, said the commission in its daily report.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina reported 8,300 new COVID-19 cases and 123 related deaths on Wednesday, bringing the national counts to 2,269,877 and 54,946 respectively.

So far, a total of 3,357,772 people have been vaccinated against the novel coronavirus in the South American nation with 2,722,622 having got the first dose and 635,150 the second.

SANTIAGO -- Chile's vaccination drive against COVID-19 on Wednesday reached the population of healthy adults after nearly 6 million people in high-risk groups had been first immunized, the government said.

"Today we begin a very important milestone, which is the start of vaccination for the healthy population," Chile's Deputy Health Minister Paula Daza said at a vaccination center at Nunoa, a community in the capital Santiago and metropolitan area.

SANTIAGO -- Chile reported on Wednesday 4,826 new COVID-19 cases and 18 more deaths in one day, bringing the national tallies to 947,783 and 22,402 respectively, said the Health Ministry.

"The public must maintain self-care measures, which for now are the most effective way to avoid new infections," said Chilean Health Minister Enrique Paris during the daily report.

ADDIS ABABA -- The Mission of the People's Republic of China to the African Union (AU) on Wednesday donated a batch of COVID-19 prevention medical supplies to the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

The medical supplies, which among other things include thermometers, oxygen generators, isolation gowns, ventilators, surgical masks and other Personal Protective Equipments, were handed over in the presence of senior UNECA officials as well as diplomats from the Chinese mission at the headquarters of the UNECA in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

WELLINGTON -- Businesses running sports competitions, concerts, weddings and other big events were among the hardest hit by COVID-19 restrictions in 2020, New Zealand's statistics department Stats NZ said on Thursday.

The sector, known as arts and recreation services, faced limits on crowd sizes and social distancing because of COVID-19, forcing the cancellation of large gatherings. Almost all businesses in these fields were unable to operate fully during COVID-19 alert levels 3 and 4, and only a small number were partly operational.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 430 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Wednesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 100,276.

The daily caseload stayed above 400 for two straight days. The total cases topped 100,000 since the first case was found here in January last year.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported six more cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation and no new community cases on Thursday.

The six new imported cases all remained in managed isolation and quarantine facilities in Auckland, according to the Ministry of Health. Enditem
