Live COVID-19 updates: Brazil sets daily record with more than 100,000 new cases

BEIJING, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil on Thursday registered a record number of new COVID-19 cases, after 100,158 people have tested positive for the disease in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health.

The South American country has accumulated a total of 12,320,169 COVID-19 cases since the first case was detected on Feb. 26, 2020, said the ministry.

CANBERRA -- Australia's Treasurer has declared that the government will continue to support jobs when the coronavirus wage subsidy scheme ends.

The JobKeeper scheme, which was introduced in March 2020 to stimulate the economy amid widespread coronavirus restrictions, will end on Sunday.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia has registered a record high of 437 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) said Friday.

Of the latest confirmed cases, 370 were detected in Ulan Bator, the country's capital and the hardest-hit city, and the remaining 67 cases were reported in seven provinces, the NCCD said in a statement.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 11,846,652 on Friday as 59,118 new cases were reported across the country, the highest number this year so far, according to the latest figures released by the federal health ministry.
