PHNOM PENH -- A new batch of COVID-19 vaccines Cambodia purchased from China's pharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech arrived here on Friday, giving the country greater possibility to vaccinate its citizens against the virus.
The vaccine touched down at the Phnom Penh International Airport on flight CZ8083, which was operated by China Southern Airlines. Present at the airport for the handover of the vaccine were Cambodian Economy and Finance Ministry's permanent secretary of state Vongsey Vissoth, Health Ministry's secretary of state Yok Sambath and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian. MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday 9,838 new COVID-19 infections, the highest ever daily tally since the outbreak began in January last year.
Friday's record daily increase pushed the nationwide count in the Southeast Asian country to 702,856, including 13,149 deaths after 54 more patients died from the viral disease on Friday, the DOH daily bulletin showed. (Philippines-COVID-19 infections)

MANILA -- An improving global economic outlook and progress on COVID-19 vaccinations have pushed up bond yields in emerging East Asia, according to the latest issue of the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) Asia Bond Monitor released on Friday.
The report said emerging East Asia's local currency bond market reached 20.1 trillion U.S. dollars by the end of December 2020, 3.1 percent higher than the preceding quarter and 18.1 percent higher than a year earlier. (Philippines-ADB-Bond market)

NEW DELHI -- The death toll in fire at a COVID-19 hospital in India's Mumbai city rose to nine, as a couple of more persons are still feared trapped inside it, confirmed a top cop.
