Live COVID-19 updates: Cambodia reports 40 new local cases

BEIJING, March 29 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia confirmed 40 new local COVID-19 cases and one new death on Monday, the country's Ministry of Health said in a statement.

Of the new cases, 29 were found in the capital Phnom Penh, six in Koh Kong province and one each in Svay Rieng, Takeo, Siem Reap, Tboung Khmum and Kampot provinces, the statement said.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia reported a record daily high of 575 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, taking the national tally to 7,589, the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) said Monday.

"A total of 13,210 COVID-19 tests were conducted at 15 laboratories across the country yesterday, and 575 of them were positive," Enebish Temuulen, deputy director of the NCCD, said at a press conference.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil reported 44,326 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the national caseload to 12,534,688, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The country also reported 1,656 new deaths from COVID-19, bringing the total death toll to 312,206.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa has reached 4,178,590 as of Sunday evening, according to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

Figures from the Africa CDC, the specialized healthcare agency of the African Union, show that the death toll from the disease in Africa stood at 111,784, while 3,743,004 patients across the continent have recovered.

ADDIS ABABA -- Ethiopia registered 1,769 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 200,563 as of Sunday evening, the country's Ministry of Health said.

Meanwhile, 17 new deaths from the virus were reported across the country, bringing the national death toll to 2,801, said the ministry.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally crossed 12 million mark, reaching 12,039,644 on Monday as 68,020 new cases were reported across the country, the highest daily spike this year, according to the latest figures released by the federal health ministry.

A total of 291 deaths were reported since Sunday morning, taking the death toll to 161,843. Enditem
