Togo's COVID-19 cases top 10,000

LOME, March 31 (Xinhua) -- The total of COVID-19 cases in Togo has reached 10,249, as the West Afrian country reported 257 new cases on Tuesday night.

According to Togo's latest update, 45 recoveries were newly registered, taking the total recoveries to 7,815, while 2,325 patients were under treatment.

Meanwhile, two more deaths were reported, bringing the country's COVID-19 death toll to 109.

Togo, which registered its first case in March last year, has faced a new surge of daily cases, mainly in Grand-Lome, and new variants since January.

Togo launched a nationwide vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in March and called for "vigilance and full respect" of current restrictive measures. Enditem
