German shares almost unchanged at start of trading on Wednesday

BERLIN, March 31 (Xinhua) -- German stocks were almost unchanged at the start of trading on Wednesday, with the benchmark DAX index losing 26.49 points, or 0.18 percent, opening at 14,982.12 points.

The biggest winner among Germany's 30 largest listed companies at the start of trading was telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom, increasing by 0.64 percent, followed by building materials company HeidelbergCement with 0.56 percent and Deutsche Bank with 0.54 percent.

Shares of Vonovia fell by 0.72 percent. The German housing company was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Wednesday.

The number of employees in Germany in February declined by 0.1 percent on the previous month and was still down 1.7 percent year-on-year, the country's Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced on Wednesday.

Producer prices of services in Germany in 2020 were up 1.9 percent year-on-year, Destatis announced on Wednesday. The figure "rose markedly" in the fourth quarter of 2020, growing by 2.6 percent year-on-year.

The yield on German ten-year bonds went down 0.001 percentage point to minus 0.277 percent and the euro was trading almost unchanged at 1.1718 U.S. dollars, decreasing by 0.01 percent on Wednesday morning. Enditem
