HERAT, Afghanistan, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Two police officers were killed and two others wounded when an improvised bomb was detonated near a police checkpoint along a provincial road in Afghanistan's western Herat province on Thursday, a local official confirmed.
"The incident happened in Kamar Kalagh, an area on the outskirts of provincial capital Herat city, in the morning. The killed were transported to a police hospital and the wounded were shifted to a regional hospital," Mohammad Rafiq Shirzai, a spokesman of provincial health directorate, told Xinhua.
Relatives of the affected people will be notified soon, the official said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. However, Afghan officials have blamed the Taliban militant group for a string of explosions in recent months in the conflict-stricken country. Enditem
