ADDIS ABABA, April 1 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopian Minister of Health Lia Tadesse has commended China's support for Ethiopia's fight against COVID-19, saying its vaccines will further contribute to the African country's vaccination campaign.

"The Chinese government has been undertaking various types of anti-COVID-19 support to the Ethiopian government ranging from sending medical supplies to sending a Chinese medical team," Tadesse told Xinhua recently at a ceremony to receive a batch of China's Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines.

China has been helping Ethiopia in its anti-pandemic fight since its outbreak in the African country last year, Tadesse said, noting that Ethiopia has strong collaboration and solidarity with China and will get more vaccines with the help of the Chinese authorities.

The Sinopharm vaccines will play a crucial role in controlling the pandemic and reducing the COVID-19-related morbidity and mortality.

Meanwhile, the minister said vaccines alone cannot completely control the spread of the virus. She urged the public to continue to follow health precaution measures.

Ethiopia has recorded 206,589 COVID-19 cases and 2,865 COVID-19 related deaths as of Wednesday evening. Enditem
