LISBON, April 4 (Xinhua) -- Portugal registered another 193 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the lowest since Aug. 25, 2020, health authorities reported on Sunday.

The Portuguese Directorate-General for Health (DGS) also reported four more deaths related to COVID-19.

To date, the country has recorded a total of 823,335 cases and 16,879 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic, said the DGS epidemiological bulletin.

There are still 517 people hospitalized due to the disease, it said.

As the world is struggling to contain the pandemic, vaccination is underway in an increasing number of countries with already-authorized COVID-19 vaccines.

According to health authorities, more than 1.8 million vaccine doses have been administered in Portugal.

Meanwhile, 269 candidate vaccines are still being developed worldwide -- 85 of them in clinical trials -- in countries including Germany, China, Russia, Britain, and the United States, according to information released by the World Health Organization on Friday. Enditem
