SEOUL, April 6 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's online shopping posted a double-digit growth in February as the continued COVID-19 pandemic forced people to stay at home, statistical office data showed Tuesday.

The double-digit increase came on the back of strong demand for food delivery services, caused by the protracted pandemic. Online food delivery services surged 64.6 percent in February on a yearly basis.

Online shopping for home appliances, electronic and communication devices advanced 23.4 percent.

Shopping in the cyberspace for food and beverage as well as farm goods increased in double figures as the Lunar New Year holidays fell in February this year.

Online demand for cosmetics, and travel and transport services declined in double digits in the month.

Mobile shopping through smartphones amounted to 9.73 trillion won (8.7 billion U.S. dollars) in February, up 20.2 percent from a year earlier.
