BUENOS AIRES, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Three-time Copa Libertadores champions Santos took a major step toward qualifying for the main draw of South America's premier club competition with a 3-1 win at San Lorenzo on Tuesday.
Lucas Braga put the Brazilian side ahead in the seventh minute and former Changchun Yatai striker Marinho made it 2-0 by converting a penalty on the stroke of halftime.
Paraguayan winger Angel Romero gave the Argentine club hope with a 72nd-minute strike before Angelo Borges put the result beyond doubt when he fired in from close range following a counterattack.
The return leg will be played in Santos next Tuesday (April 13). The winner of the tie on aggregate will earn a berth in the competition's group stage, which begins on April 20.
Santos won the tournament in 1962, 1963 and 2011 while San Lorenzo triumphed in 2014. Enditem
