Bangladesh reports highest daily spike of 7,626 COVID-19 cases

DHAKA, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday reported 7,626 new COVID-19 infections, the highest increase in a single day since the pandemic started in the country.

The virus has so far spread to nearly every Bangladeshi district and the official data showed that the national tally for COVID-19 infections has increased to 659,278 with 9,447 deaths including 63 on Wednesday.

The official data showed that 34,630 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

The total number of recovered patients in the country stood at 561,639, including 3,256 new recoveries on Wednesday, said the DGHS.

The COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is now 1.43 percent and the current recovery rate is 85.19 percent.

Bangladesh recorded the highest daily new cases of 7,213 and the highest number of deaths of 66 on Tuesday.

To control the new COVID-19 wave in the country, the Bangladeshi government on Monday enforced a one-week lockdown. Enditem
