Morocco registers 663 new COVID-19 cases, 499,688 in total

RABAT, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Morocco announced on Wednesday 663 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the North African country to 499,688.

The total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in Morocco increased to 486,349 after 641 more were added.

The death toll rose to 8,867 with two new fatalities during the last 24 hours, while 454 people are in intensive care units.

The COVID-19 fatality rate in Morocco stands at 1.8 percent while the recovery rate is 97.3 percent.

Meanwhile, 4,410,023 people have received so far the first vaccine shot against COVID-19 in the country, and 4,038,083 people have received the second dose.

The North African country launched a nationwide vaccination campaign on Jan. 28 after the arrival of the first shipment of China's Sinopharm vaccines.

Moroccan government announced on Wednesday a nationwide night curfew during the Muslim's fasting month of Ramadan to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The curfew will be implemented from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. local time, starting from the first day of Ramadan. Enditem
