TOKYO, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Thursday as investor sentiment was dented by a resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Japan, which have clouded the outlook for earnings season here as well as the broader economic recovery.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 170.72 points, or 0.57 percent, from Wednesday to 29,560.07.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 15.47 points, or 0.79 percent, at 1,951.96.

Air transportation, textile and apparel, and pharmaceutical issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
