KAMPALA -- Uganda's Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) has risen above the 50 threshold for two consecutive months, signaling an improvement in business conditions in the east African country, a report said on Wednesday.

The monthly report for March issued by Stanbic Bank Uganda showed that the PMI in March increased to 53.2 from February's 51.2. The March reading is the highest since last November. (Uganda-PMI-COVID-19)

NEW YORK -- New York State would collect billions of additional tax dollars from rich people and corporations each year in order to secure funds for expensive spending amid the pandemic, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo said.

After striking a deal with Cuomo on the 212-billion-U.S. dollar budget on Tuesday, the New York State Senate and Assembly passed the budget bill for the fiscal year 2022, beginning April 1 this year. (US-New York-Tax)

SEOUL -- South Korean households' consumption expenditure posted the biggest decline last year on the back of the COVID-19 pandemic, statistical office data showed Thursday.

The monthly average expenditure by households, including single-member ones, amounted to 2.4 million won (2,150 U.S. dollars) nationwide in 2020, down 2.3 percent from the previous year, according to Statistics Korea. (S. Korea-Household Consumption-2020) Enditem
