BERLIN, April 8 (Xinhua) -- German stocks recorded small gains at the start of trading on Thursday, with the benchmark DAX index rising by 60.08 points, or 0.40 percent, opening at 15,236.44 points.
The biggest winner among Germany's 30 largest listed companies at the start of trading was plastic specialist Covestro, increasing by 1.96 percent, followed by online food delivery company Delivery Hero with 1.67 percent and carmaker Volkswagen with 1.37 percent.
Shares of HeidelbergCement fell by 0.52 percent. The German building materials company was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Thursday.
New orders in Germany's manufacturing sector in February increased by 1.2 percent on the previous month, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced on Thursday.
Gross wages and salaries in Germany in 2020 fell by 0.1 percent year-on-year, Destatis announced on Thursday, saying that the development of earnings was "strongly affected by the corona crisis and the resulting massive increase in short-time work."
The yield on German ten-year bonds went down 0.006 percentage point to minus 0.323 percent, and the euro was trading almost unchanged at 1.1870 U.S. dollars, decreasing by 0.02 percent on Thursday morning. Enditem
