HANOI, April 8 (Xinhua) -- The 14th National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam, the country's top legislature, on Thursday afternoon concluded its 11th and final session after fulfilling all items on the set agenda.

During the session that began on March 24, Vuong Dinh Hue was elected as the new chairman of the NA on March 31, before former Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc became the country's president and Pham Minh Chinh was elected as the new prime minister on April 5.

The lawmakers also voted on other key personnel changes including those concerning cabinet members and senior legislators.

In addition to personnel work, the NA comprehensively summarized the work in the 2016-2021 term of state agencies, Chairman of the NA Vuong Dinh Hue said at the closing meeting held in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi.

The parliament agreed that in the past term, despite difficulties and complicated fluctuations, state agencies have made important achievements and left outstanding marks in the process of building and developing the country, according to Hue.

The NA also pointed out the shortcomings in the operation of state agencies, with a resolution on the agencies' performance in the 2016-2021 tenure adopted, which put forward suggestions to improve their operational efficiency in the next term, Hue added.

During the session, the NA also passed a draft amendment to the law on drug prevention and crackdown, and listened to a report on the preparation for the general election scheduled for late May to elect deputies to the 15th NA and to the People's Councils at all levels.

Nearly 500 Vietnamese lawmakers convened in Hanoi for the NA session. Enditem
