UNITED NATIONS -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Marcos De Sa Affonso Da Costa of Brazil as force commander for the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).

Affonso Da Costa succeeds Lieutenant General Ricardo Augusto Ferreira Costa Neves of Brazil who completed his assignment on March 31 and to whom the secretary-general is deeply grateful for his important contribution and service to MONUSCO, according to a press note issued by the UN chief's office. HOUSTON -- One person was killed and at least four others were critically injured in a shooting in U.S. Texas on Thursday, according to the local police.

The police said that the shooting happened at an industrial complex around 2:30 p.m. in the small Texas town of Bryan. By the time the police arrived, the shooter was gone. All victims were sent to hospitals. (US-Shooting)

BRUSSELS -- The European Commission on Thursday strongly condemned the violence in Northern Ireland, the United Kingdom.

"We condemn in the strongest possible terms the acts of violence that have occurred in Northern Ireland over the past days. Nobody has anything to gain from this. KIEV -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky paid a working trip to Donbass in eastern Ukraine due to the escalation of tensions in the region, the president's press service reported on Thursday.
