BANGKOK -- Thailand on Friday reported 559 new COVID-19 cases after new clusters involving entertainment venues led to a sharp increase of infections in the capital Bangkok and prompted the government to temporarily close entertainment venues.

Out of Friday's new cases, nearly half, or 268 were confirmed in Bangkok, with 214 of them being linked to clusters spreading from entertainment venues, according to the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) assistant spokeswoman Panprapa Yongtrakul. (Thailand-COVID-19-Cluster)

PAKA, Malaysia -- The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), Malaysia's mega rail project, jointly constructed with China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), saw on Friday the first tunnel breakthrough that happened here in Terengganu state.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia has set a mechanism to provide free COVID-19 vaccines to all foreigners residing and working in the kingdom, according to a Ministry of Health (MoH) statement.

Signed by Health Minister Mam Bunheng, the statement said on Thursday night that all foreigners living or working in Cambodia who are not under the umbrella of the United Nations, international organizations, bilateral organizations, international financial institutions, embassies or local organizations are eligible for vaccinations free of charge. SUVA -- The first batch of COVID-19 vaccine arrived in the South Pacific island nation of Samoa on Friday, local media reported.

According to local English newspaper the Samoa Observer, over 20,000 vials of the vaccine, sourced under the World Health Organization-led COVAX facility, arrived at the Faleolo International Airport near Apia, capital of Samoa, on Friday afternoon. (Samoa-COVID-19-Vaccine)

KABUL -- A total of nine Afghan border force members were recently killed in separate attacks by Taliban militants in Afghanistan's western Herat province, a local TV channel reported on Friday.
