ASUNCION, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Argentine midfielder Lorenzo Faravelli scored a brace as Ecuador's Independiente del Valle came from behind to overcome Brazilian side Gremio 2-1 in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores qualifier here on Friday.

Former Brazil international striker Diego Souza put Gremio ahead with a ninth-minute strike before Faravelli converted two penalties in eight second-half minutes.

The match was originally slated to be played in Quito on Wednesday but was rescheduled and moved to Paraguay at the request of Ecuadorian authorities because of a COVID-19 outbreak in Gremio's squad.

The return leg will be played in the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegre next Wednesday.

The winner on aggregate will advance to the group stage of South America's premier club competition, which begins on April 21. Enditem
