TRIPOLI, April 10 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan National Center for Disease Control on Saturday started a vaccination campaign against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The vaccination started in the capital Tripoli with Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and Health Minister Ali Zanati as the first persons to be vaccinated in the country, said the center.

Over the past few days, the Libyan government announced that it has received 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, urging people to register online to vaccinate.

According to Ali Zanati, priority for vaccination will be for medical staff treating COVID-19 patients inside isolation units, followed by the elderly, those with chronic diseases, and then medical workers in different hospitals and medical centers.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Libya so far is 166,888, including 152,328 recoveries and 2,807 fatalities, according to Libyan National Center. Enditem
