BUENOS AIRES, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Outgoing Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero will need to sacrifice higher potential earnings elsewhere if he decides to return to Argentine football, Racing Club president Victor Blanco said on Saturday.

Romero's contract at Old Trafford expires in June and media reports have linked him with a return to his homeland.

"I always say that if this type of player comes back it's because they really want to, otherwise it's impossible," Blanco told Argentine news outlet TNT Sports.

"Argentine football cannot afford those types of figures. Likewise, players here are going abroad because we cannot pay them what they deserve," he added.

Romero, a long-time backup to David de Gea, has become Manchester United's third-choice goalkeeper this season following the arrival of Dean Henderson.

The Argentina international is reportedly interested in returning to his homeland and his preference is Racing Club, where he began his professional career in 2006.

Blanco did not comment on reports that Colombian midfielder Giovanni Moreno could also rejoin the club later this year. Moreno played for Racing from 2010 to 2012 before joining Chinese club Shandong Luneng, where he has remained since. Enditem
