Live COVID-19 updates: Russia records 8,702 new cases

BEIJING, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia confirmed 8,702 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 4,641,390, the official monitoring and response center said Sunday.

The national COVID-19 death toll rose by 337 to 102,986 in the past day, while the number of recoveries grew by 7,230 to 4,265,509.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 1,739 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Sunday, bringing the national total to 360,856.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that eight of the new cases are imported and with 1,731 being local transmissions.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 4,127 within one day to 1,566,995, with the death toll adding by 87 to 42,530, the Health Ministry said on Sunday.

According to the ministry, 5,219 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 1,414,507.

MANILA -- The Philippines will ease the lockdown restrictions in Metro Manila and four adjacent provinces starting Monday despite the surge of COVID-19 infections, a government spokesman said on Sunday.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said President Rodrigo Duterte approved to relax restrictions in Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal until April 30.

ADDIS ABABA -- Ethiopia registered 1,739 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 227,255 as of Saturday evening, the country's Ministry of Health said.

The ministry said 35 new deaths from the coronavirus were reported across the country during the same period, bringing the national death toll to 3,146.

BEIJING -- More than 164.47 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered across China as of Saturday, the National Health Commission said Sunday.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia recorded 831 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the national count to 15,014, the National Center for Communicable Diseases said Sunday.

Meanwhile, three more deaths and 284 more recoveries were reported, taking the nationwide counts to 27 and 9,159, respectively, the center said. Enditem
