HAVANA, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Cuba on Monday registered its deadliest day during the COVID-19 pandemic with eight fatalities, taking its death toll to 467, the country's Ministry of Public Health announced.
Over the past 24 hours, the Caribbean nation reported 854 additional COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number to 87,385.
It comes amid the government's efforts to contain the sharpest rise in infections since the pandemic began.
At present, partial lockdown measures remain in place across the country, including restrictions on people's nightly movement, in an attempt to slow the spread of the virus.
Of all new cases reported, 424 were registered in Havana, the epicenter of the pandemic on the island, followed by the provinces of Matanzas and Granma. Enditem
