Live COVID-19 updates: Iran reports 23,311 cases, 2,093,452 in total

BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi Ministry of Health reported on Monday 7,953 new coronavirus cases, raising the total nationwide infections to 932,899.

The new cases included 3,052 in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, 952 in Basra, 618 in Wasit, 555 in Duhok, and 409 in Sulaimaniyah, while the other cases were detected in other provinces, the ministry said in a statement.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 228 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, raising the total infections in the country to 836,128.

The death toll from the virus rose by four to 6,304, while the number of patients in serious conditions decreased from 259 to 250, out of 394 hospitalized patients.

LONDON -- Another 3,568 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 4,373,343, according to official figures released Monday.

The country also reported another 13 coronavirus-related deaths. The total number of coronavirus-related deaths in Britain now stands at 127,100. These figures only include the deaths of people who died within 28 days of their first positive test.

TEHRAN -- The Iranian Health Ministry on Monday reported 23,311 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total infections to 2,093,452.

The pandemic has so far claimed 64,764 lives in Iran, up by 274 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing.

DOHA -- The Qatari health ministry on Monday announced 973 new COVID-19 infections, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the Gulf state to 190,998, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Meanwhile, 559 more people recovered from the virus, bringing the overall recoveries to 170,194, while the fatalities increased by two to 335, according to a ministry statement quoted by QNA. Enditem
