Live COVID-19 updates: Over 200,000 new cases take India's tally to over 14 million

BEIJING, April 15 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 surge continues as over 200,000 (200,739) cases were registered during the past 24 hours, taking the total tally to over 14 million (14,074,564), said the latest data released by the federal health ministry on Thursday.

As many as 1,038 deaths due to the pandemic since Wednesday morning took the death toll to 173,123, added the data.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil's COVID-19 death toll has risen to 361,884 after 3,459 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the country registered 73,513 new cases, bringing the national tally to 13,673,507, the ministry said.

BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland on Wednesday reported 10 new COVID-19 cases, all imported, the National Health Commission said Thursday.

Of them, four were in Guangdong, three in Shanghai, and one each in Shanxi, Hubei, and Sichuan, the commission said in its daily report.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina on Wednesday reported 25,157 new COVID-19 cases and 368 deaths in the last 24 hours, the highest one-day death toll from the disease since Jan. 18, when 425 patients died in a single day.

It was also the sixth time in nine days that more than 20,000 infections had been detected in 24 hours.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 698 more cases of COVID-19 as of midnight Wednesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 112,117.

The daily caseload was down from 731 in the previous day, but it stayed around 700, raising worry about the fourth wave of the pandemic. Enditem
