Malaysia's natural rubber production rises 9 pct in February

KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's natural rubber production in February increased by 9 percent to 49,840 tonnes from 45,735 tonnes in January, official data showed Thursday.

Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that on a year on year basis, the production of natural rubber decreased by 0.1 percent.

Meanwhile, exports of Malaysia's natural rubber increased 13.5 percent to 54,632 tonnes in February from 48,125 tonnes in January, with China remaining as the main natural rubber export destination, contributing 40.5 percent of the total natural rubber exports.

Rubber gloves was the main export item with export value at 5.8 billion ringgit (about 1.42 billion U.S. dollars) in February, an increase compared to January (5.6 billion ringgit). The United States led as the highest importer of rubber gloves followed by Germany and China.

Meanwhile, the stocks of natural rubber increased by 1.9 percent month on month to 286,117 tonnes in February.

"Average price of Latex Concentrate recorded an increase of 587.91 sen per kilogramme as compared to January (550.26 sen per kilogramme). Standard Malaysian Rubber 20 (S.M.R. 20) also increased to 672.68 sen per kilogramme as compared to 628.58 sen per kilogramme for the same period," it said. Enditem
