Canada's IPPI continuing up in March

OTTAWA, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Canada's Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI) increased 1.6 percent in March 2021, marking its fourth consecutive month of growth, according to Statistics Canada on Thursday.

Excluding energy and petroleum products, the IPPI rose 1.3 percent last Month.

The increased IPPI in March was led primarily by higher prices for lumber and other wood products, which surged 10.2 percent, particularly softwood lumber which was up 11.9 percent. It was the fourth consecutive monthly increase for softwood lumber.

Year over year, softwood lumber was up 118.9 percent, the largest ever year-over-year increase posted by this product since 1956.

The prices for energy and petroleum products rose 5.0 percent, and chemicals and chemical products rose 2.8 percent, also contributing to the IPPI increase.

Year over year, the IPPI jumped 9.4 percent, its largest gain since October 2008.
