BEIJING, April 17 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TEHRAN --- The Iranian health ministry on Saturday reported 21,312 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, taking the country's total infections to 2,215,445.

The pandemic has so far claimed 66,327 lives in Iran, up by 319 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh recorded 101 more deaths from COVID-19 on Saturday, the second day in a row that the daily toll surpassed 100, bringing the total fatalities to 10,283, according to the country's Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

DGHS also reported 3,473 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, raising the total caseload to 715,252.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 1,384 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking its total to 342,923, according to the country's health ministry.

The country registered 1,401 new recoveries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 333,373, the ministry said.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 2,331 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Saturday, bringing the national total to 372,859.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that 12 of the new cases are imported, with 2,319 being local transmissions.

BANGKOK -- Thailand registered 1,547 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, raising the total number in the country to 40,585, the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said Saturday.

Of the new cases, 1,544 were domestic infections and three others were quarantined arrivals, CCSA spokesman Taweesin Visanuyothin said.

MOSCOW -- Russia confirmed 9,321 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 4,693,469, the official monitoring and response center said Saturday.

The national COVID-19 death toll rose by 398 to 105,193 in the past day, while the number of the country's recoveries grew by 8,832 to 4,319,389. Enditem
