WASHINGTON -- The Chinese Embassy here on Saturday expressed its firm opposition to the comments in the U.S. and Japan joint leaders' statement.

The United States and Japan issued a joint leaders' statement on Friday, saying that they are aiming for a free and open Indo-Pacific and expressed their concerns over the East China Sea, the South China Sea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang. (US-Japan-China)

NICOSIA -- The foreign ministers of Cyprus, Greece, Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) concluded a two-day meeting on regional issues and cooperation, Cyprus' Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides said on Saturday.

The minister said that at the meeting held in the western coastal city of Paphos, he and his counterparts discussed issues ranging from the situation in Libya, Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan, to energy, civil protection, genetics and molecular medicine, education, the pandemic, digital innovation, tourism, climate and defense. MOSCOW -- The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said Saturday that it had detained two members of the Belarusian opposition who were plotting a military coup, including assassination, against Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

U.S. and Belarusian citizen Yuri Zyankovich and Belarusian citizen Alexander Feduta met secretly with so-called "Belarusian generals" at a Moscow restaurant to discuss details of the coup scheduled on May 9, when a Victory Day parade will be held in Minsk. (Russia-Belarus-Coup)

SANAA -- Yemen's Houthi militia said they fired an explosive-laden drone on Saturday toward King Khalid Air Base in the Saudi southwestern city of Khamis Mushait.
