NEW YORK, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 hospitalizations in New York State dropped to 3,754 on Saturday, compared with 3,834 one day earlier, the lowest since Nov. 29, said Governor Andrew Cuomo in an official release issued on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the single-day COVID-19 test positivity rate went down to 2.35 percent on Saturday from 2.78 percent on Friday, he said, adding that the statewide 7-day average positivity rate fell below 3 percent for the first time since Nov. 24.

"New York is making tremendous progress in our goal to vaccinate every New Yorker while keeping the infection and hospitalization rates down, but variants of the virus remain a concern across the state," the governor was quoted as saying.

"It's going to take everyone working together, as individuals and in communities, to protect each other and defeat this virus once and for all. Until we get to that point, we must stay vigilant and continue with the behaviors we know slow the spread -- washing your hands, staying socially distanced and wearing a mask," he added.

In a tweet posted on Sunday, Cuomo said that "41.4% of New Yorkers have received at least one vaccine dose and 28.1% have completed their vaccine series. 175,311 total doses were administered over the past 24 hours. 13,297,331 total doses administered to date."

As of Sunday afternoon, the total COVID-19 deaths in New York State reached 51,579, the second worst in the country following the state of California with a death toll of 61,033, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. Enditem
