TOKYO, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday on concerns that Japan's worsening COVID-19 situation will further cloud the outlook for the economy's recovery with the country's sluggish vaccination rollout adding to woes.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 123.59 points, or 0.42 percent, from Friday to 29,559.78.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 4.71 points, or 0.24 percent, at 1,956.16.

Securities house, mining and air transportation issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
