TEHRAN, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Brigadier General Mohammad Hejazi, deputy commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), died of a chronic heart disease on Sunday, Tasnim news agency reported Monday.
He had suffered from the health problem for years after being exposed to chemicals during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s, IRGC Spokesperson Ramezan Sharif was quoted by Tasnim as saying.
Hejazi also served as the commander of the IRGC's Basij voluntary forces, commander of the IRGC general staff, and deputy commander of the IRGC.
The Quds Force is responsible for extraterritorial missions of the IRGC.
