Macao's air quality improves in 2020

MACAO, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Macao's air quality improved in 2020, with each monitoring station recording higher number of "Good" air quality days as compared to 2019, the special administrative region's (SAR) statistic service said on Tuesday.

The latest annual environment report released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) showed that the number of "Poor" air quality days registered at each station in 2020 showed a notable drop from 2019.

Meanwhile, all monitoring stations registered no days with exceeded level of respirable suspended particulates (PM10) and fine suspended particulates (PM2.5) throughout the year.

The DSEC report also mentioned that the total water consumption was 85,515,000 cubic meters in 2020, down by 7.9 percent year on year.

Meanwhile the amount of solid waste decreased by almost 20 percent while the volume of construction waste rose by 66 percent.

The land area of Macao measured 32.9 square km in 2020. The population density went up from 20,400 persons per square km in 2019 to 20,800 persons per square km in 2020. Enditem
