MADRID, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane avoided talking about the European Super League when he spoke to the press ahead of his side's La Liga game away to Cadiz on Tuesday.

Real Madrid is one of the main promotors of the breakaway competition, which has so far confirmed 12 members (including Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona), while Real Madrid president Florentino Perez would become the first chairman of the new competition, which is opposed by La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), with nearly every Spanish club except those involved publishing statements expressing their opposition to the proposed breakaway.

When asked about what he thought about taking part in a competition with no relegation or promotion, Zidane said, "I am not going to give my opinion. I understand you may think 'Zidane never gives an opinion' and that's true. But my job is different. My job is tomorrow's game."

"It is a question for the president (Florentino Perez). I'm not here to talk about that," he insisted.

The coach did say that he and the Real Madrid players "haven't spoken at all" about a possible suspension from the UEFA Champions League if they compete in the Super League instead. "All we are thinking about is tomorrow's game and that's what is in our minds," commented Zidane.

As well as Sergio Ramos, Zidane will be without midfield duo Luka Modric and Toni Kroos for Wednesday night's game, with Kroos suffering muscle problems, while Modric has a back sprain.

The good news is that Nacho Fernandez and Casemiro will return after suspension, while Dani Carvajal is back in contention after a long-term injury and Raphael Varane has also returned to the squad after recovering from COVID-19. Enditem
