RIO DE JANEIRO, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Giorgian De Arrascaeta scored a superb late goal as Flamengo twice came from behind to win 3-2 at Velez Sarsfield in their opening Copa Libertadores group match on Tuesday.
The Uruguay international midfielder broke the deadlock for the Brazilian side by hammering a 25-yard drive with his left foot that flew into the top left corner.
Lucas Janson struck twice either side of a Willian Arao goal as the Argentine outfit appeared to have Flamengo's measure.
But the 2019 champions asserted themselves after the hour mark: first when Gabriel Barbosa converted from the penalty spot and then through Arrascaeta's piece of individual skill.
Velez finished the match with 10 men after Federico Mancuello was shown a straight red card for scything down Barbosa in the 86th minute.
In other fixtures on Tuesday, Sao Paulo cruised to a 3-0 victory at Sporting Cristal, Barcelona of Ecuador won 2-0 at Santos, Argentinos Juniors prevailed 2-0 at home to Nacional, Deportivo Tachira secured a 3-2 home win over Olimpia and hosts Always Ready beat Internacional 2-0. Enditem
