Asian Development Bank approves 50 mln USD for COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Afghanistan

KABUL, April 22 (Xinhua) -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a 50 million U.S. dollar grant to provide COVID-19 vaccines in Afghanistan, the Afghan Ministry of Finance confirmed on Thursday.

The project will help the Afghan government procure and transport up to 6 million doses of safe, high-quality COVID-19 vaccines for priority segments of the population, the ministry said in a statement.

On Wednesday, 130 new COVID-19 positive cases were registered in Afghanistan, raising the total number of cases to 58,346, according to the Afghan Ministry of Public Health.

According to the ministry, the COVID-19 related deaths have reached to 2,561 since the outbreak of the disease in February last year in the Asian country. Enditem
