HARARE, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe will hold its premier trade showcase, the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), in July this year following a break last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This came after President Emmerson Mnangagwa gave the green light for this year's edition of the ZITF, always held in the second city of Bulawayo, to run from July 20 to 23.

"Please be advised that the President has approved that the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair be held during the period 20th to 23rd July 2021," reads a letter to the ZITF chairperson Busisa Moyo and signed by the secretary in the Ministry of Industry Mavis Sibanda.

Zimbabwe has in the past successfully used the annual ZITF as a platform to showcase Zimbabwe's trade and business potential to both local and foreign investors, thereby helping to attract foreign direct investment.

The last trade fair was held in 2019, running under the theme "Propagating Industrial Growth through Trade and Investment".

The 2020 edition was shelved due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government has relaxed operations of industry and commerce after they were curtailed for the greater part of 2020 and early this year due to a spike in COVID-19 infections and deaths. Enditem
