BELGRADE, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Serbia achieved a visible success in the implementation of inoculation against COVID-19, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said at a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Friday, according to a press release of the president's office.

Vucic and Maas discussed economic cooperation, the European integration of Serbia, the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, challenges of mass vaccination, and regional affairs, the press release said.

Maas was quoted as saying that "we are convinced that we can overcome the crisis only if we have a fair distribution of vaccines across the globe," and this shouldn't be a political issue.

A total of 3.2 million doses of vaccines, mostly those manufactured by the Chinese company Sinopharm, along with smaller quantities of Pfizer/BioNTech, AstraZeneca and Sputnik V, have been distributed among the Serbian population of around 7 million people.

According to the public broadcaster RTS, nearly 1.3 million people have received two doses of vaccines across the country.

According to the press release, Vucic said that the visit confirmed "the importance of political dialogue and promotion of bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Germany."

During his separate meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, Maas said that Germany-Serbia ties should be built "through continuous support and strengthening of economic ties," and voiced Germany's support to the EU enlargement to the Western Balkans region. Enditem
