Live COVID-19 updates: Deaths in Brazil close in on 390,000

BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Brazil registered 3,076 more COVID-19-related deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing its death toll to 389,492, the country's Ministry of Health reported on Saturday.

According to the ministry, another 71,137 new cases were registered, bringing the country's caseload to 14,308,215.

ANKARA -- Turkey on Saturday reported 40,596 new COVID-19 cases, including 2,905 symptomatic patients, as the total number of positive cases in the country reached 4,591,416, according to its health ministry.

The death toll from the virus in Turkey rose by 339 to 38,011, while the total recoveries climbed to 4,022,408 after 52,297 more cases recovered in the last 24 hours.

KUWAIT CITY -- The Kuwaiti Health Ministry reported on Saturday 1,206 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total infections in the country to 265,404.

The ministry also announced nine more fatalities, taking the death toll to 1,511, while the tally of recoveries rose by 1,497 to 248,633. A total of 15,260 coronavirus patients are receiving treatment, including 219 in the intensive care units.

RABAT -- Morocco's COVID-19 tally rose to 509,037 on Saturday as 507 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours.

The death toll hit 8,988 with five new fatalities, while 358 people are in intensive care units, according to a statement by the Ministry of Health.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa has reached 4,487,605 as of Saturday, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

The Africa CDC, the specialized healthcare agency of the 55-member African Union (AU), said the death toll from the pandemic stood at 119,635 while 4,028,831 patients across the continent have recovered from the disease.

BEIRUT -- Lebanon registered on Saturday 1,511 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections to 519,615, the Health Ministry reported.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the virus went up by 28 to 7,118.

YANGON -- The number of COVID-19 infections has risen to 142,712 in Myanmar on Saturday after eight new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, according to a statement from the Health and Sports Ministry.

No new death was reported and the death toll stood at 3,206.

COLOMBO -- The total number of COVID-19 patients in Sri Lanka surpassed the 100,000 mark on Saturday after 826 new patients tested positive, official statistics from the Health Ministry showed.

The total number of patients reached 100,517, out of which 94,155 had recovered and been discharged from hospitals. The death toll from the virus stands at 638. Enditem
