CANBERRA, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Businesses have urged the Australian government to carry out the next stage of its planned personal income tax cuts in advance to boost economic recovery.

Jennifer Westacott, the chief executive of the Business Council of Australia, said it was worthwhile for Treasurer Josh Frydenberg to consider bringing forward the cuts from 2024, local media reported on Monday.

Under stage three of the government's plan to flatten taxation, which is set to come into effect in 2024-25, the 37 percent tax bracket would be abolished with all income earned between 45,000 Australian dollars (about 34,867 U.S. dollars) and 200,000 AUD (about 154,968 USD) to be taxed at 30 percent.

Income earned above that threshold will be taxed at 45 percent.

The changes will mean that around 95 percent of taxpayers will face a marginal tax rate of 30 percent or less in 2024-25.

"Bringing forward stage three tax cuts will need to be carefully considered through the budget process but moves that see Australians keep more of their hard-earned income are good for workers, good for businesses and good for the economy," Westacott told News Corp Australia.

"We support any measures that put money back in people's pockets, drive economic activity and let business do the heavy lifting on job creation as we recover."

Frydenberg will hand down the federal budget for 2021/22 in May. He said the government's primary focus would be on jobs growth rather than tackling the record debt and deficit levels. Enditem
