KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) for local production rose 6.7 percent year on year in March, the highest increase since August 2017, official data showed Wednesday.

According to the Department of Statistics, the growth was driven by the increase in mining, agriculture, forestry and fishing, as well as manufacturing indices.

The mining index rebounded to 32 percent as compared to negative 11 percent in the previous month.

Meanwhile, the agriculture, forestry and fishing index marked a new high growth of 41.1 percent as commodities recorded higher prices this month.

The manufacturing index also registered an increase of 2.2 percent resulting from a higher price of petroleum and agriculture commodities.

Electricity and gas supply as well as water supply indices, however, recorded a decline of 1.4 percent and 0.1 percent respectively.

The PPI for local production in the first quarter rose 3 percent year on year, due to higher growth for indices of agriculture, forestry and fishing, manufacturing and water supply. Enditem
